When is the best time to begin orthodontic treatment? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first Orthodontic evaluation at age 7. Most patients do not require treatment at this time; but it is a good idea to have an evaluation at this age to check growth and development. We believe that early treatment should be done in the following types of cases:

Skeletal – patients that have significant jaw imbalances: overbites, underbites and crossbites

Safety – patients that have protrusive incisors are more prone to having these teeth fractured in childhood.

Social – significant crowding and spacing issues can make a child self-conscious, especially if they are being teased, which can impact their self-image and confidence.

After a thorough evaluation, we find that only about 20% of our younger patients fall into these categories. When delaying treatment is recommended, our supervision program enables us to monitor dental development every 4-6 months.

More and more adults today are seeking orthodontic treatment to improve their smile. In fact, about 25 percent of our patients are adults! We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed for adults – leaving you with a dramatically improved smile and healthier bite.

Orthodontic treatment is not only designed to improve the appearance of your smile, but improve the health of your teeth and gums as well. By seeking orthodontic treatment as an adult you can often avoid severe tooth decay, gum and bone loss, irregular wear of the tooth enamel, and TMJ/TMD pain.

At LakePointe, we offer Invisalign ® (clear aligner therapy), ceramic braces, and traditional metal braces. The majority of our adults find Invisalign® to be an advantageous appliance to keep their treatment discrete and comfortable.

It’s not too late to improve your smile! We are confident we can help you achieve and maintain the beautiful, healthy smile you’ve always dreamed about!

Invisalign® straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know that you’re straightening your teeth.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawbacks to ceramic brackets are that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits.

The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.

Invisalign® Teen

Invisalign Teen features blue-to-clear color-changing aligners to show how long each aligner has been worn, six free replacement aligners in case some are lost or broken, and other changes designed to accommodate growing mouths. Invisalign Teen is the perfect teeth-straightening system for today’s teens’ busy lifestyles!

Empower is a series of self-ligating braces from American Orthodontics. Self-ligating braces use lighter wires and lower friction brackets to move teeth. Empower is unique in that it’s the first self-ligating brace system to offer both active and passive archwire clips, allowing your orthodontist unprecedented precision control, and the fastest possible treatment time.

MTM® No•Trace Brackets

For patients who only need minimal tooth shifting, MTM® No•Trace brackets are the perfect solution! Instead of having bulky metal braces on the front of your teeth for everyone to see, MTM® No•Trace brackets are bonded to the back side, or lingual side, of your teeth. They will be completely hidden and undetectable. MTM® No•Trace brackets are also very effective, giving you results in 12-14 weeks.

Acceledent® is a small hands-free device that uses softpulses (vibrations) that initiate rapid bone remodeling, thus making tooth movement faster and often more comfortable. You simply hold the mouthpiece between your teeth for 20 minutes daily, while you are wearing Invisalign or braces. Studies have found that treatment time can be reduced by 50%.

We are happy to also offer an additional vibration technology with Propel’s VPro5™! Used for just 5 minutes per day, the VPro5™ helps ensure that your clear aligners are fully seated.

Did you know?

Proper aligner seating is very important. Improperly seated aligners can slow treatment, forcing patients to backtrack to previous trays. In addition to prolonging treatment, consequences of incomplete aligner seating can include unnecessary refinement.

We have two Itero scanners to better serve our patients for detailed 3-D virtual models to make our Invisalign® aligners, certain appliances and retainers for patients who prefer no impressions.

The actual scan is about 5 minutes and is very comfortable.

Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects significant imbalances of the facial bones, specifically the upper and lower jaws. Often, these abnormalities and their related bite problems can cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities. Orthognathic surgery in conjunction with orthodontic treatment will correct these conditions and improve the facial profile and smiling esthetics.

Using the latest in digital imaging technology, we will demonstrate the overall functional and aesthetic benefits of orthognathic surgery. Computerized treatment planning minimizes treatment times, recovery periods and improves the effectiveness of surgery. State-of-the-art materials such as titanium plates and miniature screws provide stability, strength and predictability to your treatment. These advances in technology, procedures and equipment reduce post-surgical recovery time, thus allowing patients to return to their normal routines soon after the surgery.

Orthognathic surgery may be unnecessary if orthodontic treatment can correct the problem. With the latest advances in orthodontics, this is sometimes the case. We will determine if orthognathic surgery is the correct treatment option for you.
